Ahh… freedom! My job at the rest stop ended two weeks ago, and I am thoroughly enjoying getting to sleep in every morning, among other things. I’m also able to spend more time at the barn and take pictures (weather permitting), and I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed it. Here are a few of my most recent shots; enjoy! 🙂

Now that the weather is mostly sunny, I’ve been able to bring my camera out to the barn more often and get some nicely lit pictures.
A couple of Mountain Blue after class:
This may be one of my favorite horse-related portraits yet:
Blue’s ready to hit the trails!
I dropped by the barn one afternoon to get some pictures of one of the classes, and I got these gems:
Afterwards, the kids took the ponies down to the creek to cool off:
These were all taken on Saturday mornings at the barn.
First off, a couple of shots of Atchi the barn cat:
And now, a few shots of various horse camp students practicing their drill teams (this brought back memories from the ranch, both as a rider and a teacher):
June 21st may have been the summer solstice, but July is when summer really kicked in over here. With the exception of last weekend, it’s been ridiculously hot – at least, it feels that way compared to the unseasonably cool weather we had up until recently. Needless to say, I’ve been staying inside where it’s relatively cool as much as possible. I still have to walk to work during the hottest part of the day, but I have access to ice water and slushies, plus the ice cream stand is mostly in the shade, so it’s not too bad.
I still go out to the barn and ride at least once a week. I stopped leasing Leslie, so now Fred’s having me ride a different horse every session; some I hadn’t ridden in almost a year, and some I had never ridden before and had been wanting to try. Results have been a little mixed, but overall it’s been fun. Part of me suspects Fred is trying to figure out which horse(s) to have me work with next season; we’ll see what he says in September. In the meantime, I’ve been enjoying my classes and taking pictures of some of the others:
Random Lucy picture:
On the 14th, like last year, I went to watch the fireworks show and take pictures. Unlike last year, Sissi didn’t come with me because she was out of town (I did get serenaded by a nearby frog though), and this time I was using a camera that didn’t have a preset “fireworks” mode. I had checked and tested how to adjust the shutter speed beforehand, but as you can see, I probably could have tweaked it some more; over half my pictures turned out hopelessly blurry and the rest look a bit trippy (but hopefully still pretty):
Part 2 coming up shortly…
A few shots of my musical friends:
A little nature goodness:
And, last but not least, some class pictures:
Well, over here, anyway. For the past week, I’ve been seeing news reports from the north of France, UK, and parts of the States where winter has apparently decided to extend its stay.
Here, the temperatures have been yo-yoing a bit, but overall it’s feeling like spring. The April showers even made an early appearance (though I could have done without that – tomorrow’s eventing competition has been cancelled due to forecasted heavy rain). On the nice days, however, I’ve been riding in t-shirts. Those days are also very conducive to picture-taking.
So, without further ado, here’s my first batch of pics from this month:
I’ve missed “shooting” riding classes; something tells me I’ll be getting back into that habit. 🙂
